Marching Colonel for a Day

EKU's Marching Colonel for a Day program provides high school students the opportunity to perform with the Marching Colonels on Hanger Field at Roy Kidd Stadium during a home football game. This event is free and open to all high school marching band members.

The 2017 event will go on, rain or shine! We look forward to seeing you on November 18!

The following information is extremely important.  Please read carefully.

Registration Deadline: November 3, 2017 ****Extended to November 12, 2017****

Schedule of Events for November 18th


  • 7:30am – Setup for registration 
  • 8:00-8:30 – Registration 
  • 8:25 – All Marching Colonels arrive 
  • 8:45 – Welcome meeting (MC's on field) 
  • 9:00 – Begin setting halftime block (perc and guard to sectionals) 
  • 9:20 – Winds Rehearsal with HS students: American Jukebox Show, Hey Baby, Cheers/Shorties & others if time 
  • 9:50 – Break 
  • 9:55 – Full Ensemble Rehearsal 
  • 10:20 – Wrap-up Announcements 
  • 10:30 - Walk to Ravine 
  • 10:45  - Lunch (Foster or Ravine)
  • 11:30 – Ravine warmup/Inspection: Hey Baby, Hail Hail, Yea Eastern
  • 11:40 – Parade to stadium 
  • 12:00pm – Tailgate Performance 
  • 12:30 – Arrive at Roy Kidd (move into stands) 
  • 12:40 – MC's (set for pregame)
  • 12:42 – MC's Pregame
  • 1:00 – Kickoff vs. Saint Francis University

Time of Arrival/Registration

All participants should plan to arrive on the Eastern Kentucky University campus between 8:00 and 8:30am EST, Saturday, November 18, 2017 to register and prepare for rehearsal. Registration for all participants will take place at Roy Kidd Stadium. If you have registered and cannot participate for some reason, please contact us so that we may adjust our numbers for food orders.


Lunch will be served on campus in the Ravine (which is on University Drive directly across from Burnam Hall. In case of bad weather, lunch will be served in Foster 100) and will be available to you at no cost. Non-participants and observers will be responsible for their own meals. A meal will be provided after halftime as well.

Articles to be furnished by the participants

Brass and woodwinds should bring your school band uniform, instrument, music, lyre, and flip folder to hold your music.

Percussionists should bring your school band uniform, your instrument, sticks. *Note: We do not use pit percussion. If you are a pit percussionist, please bring a marching percussion instrument.

Colorguard should bring your uniform, flags and poles



The half-time program for November 18th be a part of our "American Jukebox" show, including Blue Suede Shoes, Sweet Caroline, and Hey Jude (along with Hail, Hail; and Yea! Eastern). Please download from the music link above and prepare all of these pieces prior to arrival, so we may perform at our highest level. Also, we ask that students download and prepare Hey! Baby!, Defensive Cheers, and Shorties.


Thank you for loaning us your students for the weekend! We will have complimentary tickets for you to attend the game. If you will have more than one director attending, please let me know.  My email address is posted below.

Visitors and Parents

We welcome parents and friends to attend this event. You may pick up two complimentary tickets to the game for your parents on Saturday during registration. Additional tickets may be purchased at the ticket box office, by telephone at 859-622-2122, or online at
